Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was the most mentioned footballer on Twitter throughout 2017, with only Conor McGregor beating the Frenchman to the title of most mentioned sportsman.
The boffins and statisticians at Twitter HQ have been compiling the numbers from between December 1 2016 through to December 1 2017 and it turns out Manchester United feature quite prominently in the top 10.

Pogba has always been a big user of social media, whilst Lukaku received a lot of high-profile coverage during the lead-up to his big-money move to Old Trafford last summer.
