A mugger has been shot and killed by a Russian diplomat after he tried to rob him in his car near the Olympic Park, according to police.
The reports claim that while he was stuck in a traffic jam with his family, two motorbikes surrounded the vehicle and allegedly used a gun to smash the window.
According to Globo newspaper, they demanded the Russian diplomat's watch but it didn't take long for him to react. Reports say he dragged the mugger into the car, took his weapon and shot him dead.

There have been conflicting reports regarding the incident, with Associated Press quoting Rio police as saying he was a vice-consul at the Russian consulate. However, the Russian embassy deny any of their employees were involved.
