A terrific gesture from the Wimbledon champion

We all know how nice a guy Andy Murray is but he's proved it ten times over today with a pretty special gesture.

The two-time Wimbledon champion is currently gearing up to defend his title at Queen's Club, with his opening match taking place today against Aljaž Bedene.

The plush tennis courts are situated only a couple of miles from the burnt-out block Grenfell Tower, where at least 79 people are known to have tragically died in last week's fire.

Given he lives in London for a lot of the year, Murray has been personally affected by the incident, and has promised to hand over his winnings from the competition, which could be anything as high as £346,000 if he wins his record sixth title.

As usual, Murray isn't seeking the limelight for his generosity, but several newspapers carry the story of his extraordinary gesture today.

Murray's gesture follows similar acts of generosity from Arsenal's Hector Bellerin, who will donate £50 for every minute he plays for Spain during the U21 European Championships, this summer and Southampton's Ryan Bertrand, with the Saints man pledging to help the victims of the tragedy.

Fantastic gestures, all round. Well played, lads.
