Tony Ferguson is now the front runner to welcome Conor McGregor back to the famed Octagon, though that hasn't stopped UFC president Dana White from teasing a super-fight.

Ferguson, 33, clinched the interim-UFC lightweight title at UFC 216, beating Kevin Lee via submission. He's effectively the No.1 contender to McGregor who holds the UFC lightweight belt.

The Irishman continues to weigh up his options following his lucrative foray into the world of boxing against Floyd Mayweather. While another bout inside the squared circle with Paulie Malignaggi has been muted, a return to the cage is expected.

As well as Ferguson, a rubber match with Nate Diaz is also on the cards.

But White is open to another mega clash: McGregor vs. 'GSP'. The former welterweight king is set to make his return after his hiatus when he challenges for UFC middleweight gold.

Michael Bisping is set to make the second defence of his 185lbs strap at UFC 217. But when questioned about the idea, White was open to McGregor vs. Georges St-Pierre.

"GSP would need to defend his title first at 185 [pounds] and Conor has some business to handle himself," White said via Bloody Elbow.

"It would be a year and a half down the road before we would even talk about that.

White adds: "Everybody's intriguing for Conor McGregor. I mean, if you look at Conor McGregor at 145, 155 and 170 [pounds], everything is intriguing."

If St-Pierre does capture the middleweight title, he's contracted to fight the interim-UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.

However, just like White, 'GSP' is also open to the potential fight.

"Everything is possible but everybody is targeting Conor McGregor because the money. He's the money fight. But I don't challenge guys that compete in lower weight class divisions. For me, I don't do that. I'm going up to fight Michael Bisping now. I'm looking up," he said via Bloody Elbow.

"He's an amazing fighter, it would be an amazing honor, but I don't know. I don't know what to say. If the fans want it and he wants it maybe it will happen but right now, I'm focused on Bisping," the Canadian star added.
