27 Years Ago Today, Harry Potter Made His Quidditch Debut For Gryffindor

Harry Potter entered the Quidditch history books by making his debut as a Seeker for Gryffindor against Slytherin 27 years ago today.

It has been 27 years since Harry Potter made his Quidditch debut for Gryffindor in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Oh, yes! Quidditch is a real sport in the wizarding world, okay?

True Potterheads know that the first book takes place in the '90s, despite author JK Rowling releasing the novel in 1997 in the UK and the film coming out in 2001.

After Professor McGonagall watched the boy wizard pull off a speculator David de Gea-like save when he caught Neville Longbottom's Rememberall, she rushed him off to meet Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood and told him that she had found him a Seeker.

Walking out with his fancy Nimbus 2000 broomstick -- thanks to McGonagall for buying it for him -- Potter was in his first match against Slytherin and showed shades of a young Lionel Messi early on.

Sure, he sat around on his broomstick for a little bit and watched his teammates take on Slytherin (almost getting hit by a Bludger for not paying attention!), but at least he spent his time actively looking for the Snitch.

Wood was busy in the opening moments, defending Gryffindor's hoops and irritating the Slytherin team up to the point when they would knock him off his broom.

With Gryffindor losing more players than they could count due to Slytherin's underhanded tactics, Potter catches sight of the Snitch and the chase begins.

Hot on the heels of Potter is Slytherin's Seeker, Terence Higgs, who turns this friendly rivalry into a bit of a scrap with his shoulder barging (come on, referee! Where's the foul?).

As if he didn't have his hands full, Potter had Professor Quirrell using a spell that cursed his Nimbus 2000 and was left hanging mid-air as the action ensued.

Thanks to an assist from Professor Snape after Hermione Granger set his robe on fire with a spell (surely that can't be legal? Like, these teachers have no control over the kids) and he knocked over Quirrell, Potter regains control of his broom and heads off after the Snitch.

When he finally catches up to the Snitch, he becomes a right little daredevil by balancing his broom, standing on top of it and reaching out for the object.

He catches it in his mouth after tumbling off his broom, popping it out when he stands back up after a near-tactical chunder.

Potter ends the match by capturing the Snitch and scoring 150 points for Gryffindor, helping his side deliver a complete thrashing of Slytherin.

The final result was Gryffindor on 170 points and Slytherin on 60 points -- and the rest is now history.

If Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry ever did a Ballon d'Or, then Potter's name would be written all over it.

You're the real MVP, Harry!
