Andy Murray Shuts Down Reporter For Ignoring Female Tennis Players In Post-Match Conference

Andy Murray shut down a journalist after he asked a question that ignored women players following his quarter-final defeat at Wimbledon.

The defending Wimbledon champion was beaten by American player Sam Querrey, after sustaining an injury, and was asked about his opponent in the post-match press conference.

"Andy, Sam is the first American player to reach the semi-final of a Slam since 2009...," a reporter asked.

"Male player," Murray replied.

"I beg your pardon?," the journalist responded.

"Male player," Murray repeated.

Serena and Venus Williams, Coco Vandeweghe and Madison Keys have all reached Grand Slam semi-finals since 2009, with Serena winning the title last year.

Responding to the incident, Murray's mum Judy, tweeted proudly: "That's my boy."

Scotland's First Minister Nichola Sturgeon also weighed-in, she tweeted: "What a star Andy Murray is - on and off the court."

This isn't the first time that the tennis player has stayed woke during a press conference.

At last year's Rio Olympics, the BBC's John Inverdale claimed that Murray was the first person to win two tennis golds in the sport, only for Murray to remind him: "Venus and Serena have won about four each."
