This could have been nasty.

There's plenty of ways to get injured in sports but being injured by the inanimate object that allows you to actually do your sport is probably not the best one. That's what nearly happened to the Russian synchronised diver Sergey Nazin.

With thy Olympics mere weeks away Nazin and his partner are at a Russian training camp in Cuba getting ready for the games in Rio starting in August and when practising a dive the board breaks leaving Nazin in a bit of a spin, just not a very well executed one.

Fortunately he was okay with the board hitting the water before he does thus avoiding any nasty injuries:

Coach Oleg Zaytsev said "Nothing too bad happened in here, Nazin regrouped, and the Cuban side has already fixed everything. I remember many similar accidents, including ones when divers hit the boards with their heads."

The organisers in Rio will be frantically checking their diving boards!
