The 2024 PDC World Darts Championship came to a close this week

One of the biggest stars from the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship was seen playing for a local football team days after beating Michael van Gerwen.

During what was a brilliant tournament, 16-year-old sensation from Warrington, Luke Littler grabbed all the headlines as he managed to go all the way to the final.

However, Littler was denied a fairytale ending as he was beaten 7-4 in the final by world number one Luke Humphries.

Aside from Littler, Scott Williams also managed to make headlines of his own.

Williams, who is ranked 30th in the world, produced one of the shocks of the tournament as he dispatched Van Gerwen in the quarter-final.

In the semi-final, Williams was thrashed by eventual winner Humphries by 6-0.

Days after his amazing match against Van Gerwen, Williams was pictured swapping the oche for the football pitch.

The 33-year-old played as a goalkeeper for Boston-based Swinhead Institute Reserves, who beat Park United Reserves 4-1 in the semi-final of the Main Ridge Takeaway Reserve Cup.

Williams was pictured in a team photo taken inside the dressing room.

The Lincolnshire club wrote on social media: “4-1 v skeg [Skegness] for the 1st team and the same result for res in the res cup semi. Welcome home Shaggy.”

Meanwhile, Williams posted on his social media too, saying: “Saturday afternoons are for Football……and darts.”

He added: “My other real passion is football!!! Out representing Swineshead Institute and a 4-1 win in the semi-final of the reserve cup!!!”

After beating Van Gerwen, Williams said: “I’ve knocked two of the top 10 out already, he’s provisionally number one now, so I have just knocked the number one player in the world out.

“He wasn’t the Michael van Gerwen we have seen in the last couple of games, but that’s not my problem.”
