Retired Man Wins £457,067.52 Off A 20p Bet

We're just happy when we find a fiver in an old pair of jeans!

It's good enough finding a scrunched-up fiver in a pair of jeans you haven't worn in a while, or winning a tenner on a scratch card, but imagine finding out you'd bagged £450,000 from 20p horse racing bet.

Not a bad stroke of luck at all!

Well, that's exactly what happened to one jammy North London bloke who will presumably now be able to put on less stingy bets.

The man, a retired accountant, who wanted to remain unnamed, put on two quid's worth of bets, spread over seven horses in Lingfield, Donacaster and Newbury on Friday.

After he saw that one of his picks had not come in he decided not to bother checking the other results.

"I checked a couple of the early results on my tablet but then after seeing one of them had lost I thought I might have only been on for a couple of places, so didn't bother to see how the rest of the horses had got on," the lucky man said.

"The next thing I knew, someone from [the bookmakers] Ladbrokes was phoning me to congratulate me for winning nearly half a million quid and to ask how I'd like the money, and I had no idea what he was talking about."

Ladbroke's have said that the winning bets were: Dinsdale who was on at 6/1; Peal Spectre at 10/1; Boater at 15/2; Wishicould at 14/1; and Monfass and Mcvicar, who were both on at odds of 12/1.

The man, who claims to be a lifelong racing fan bagged a cool £457,067.52 from a 10p each way "six-fold accumulator", that he had placed as part of a multiple bet.

As if that wasn't enough, the payment has apparently been boosted by an additional £228,000, due to Ladbrokes' Best Odds Guaranteed Concession.

Not a bad return from two quid, we're sure you'll agree.
