Manchester United this afternoon made the decision whether or not to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic for next season with the Swedish striker injured and his contract coming to an end.

Zlatan picked up his injury at the back end of last season in the Europa League. Damaging his cruciate ligaments as injury time approached in the second leg of the team's quarter final.

Ibra moved to United at the beginning of the season after leaving PSG, where he won Ligue 1 for four season in a row and became the club's leading ever scorer.

At 35 some people questioned whether or not the Swede could still cut it in the Premier League but his 17 goals in a United side short of them put an end to that question and there'd have been no question about his future if it wasn't for his injury.

This afternoon made the announcement on which players out of contract they were keeping and which they were letting go. And the Red Devils announced that Zlatan will not be kept on.

When he moved from Paris the former Juventus striker only signed a one year deal with the option of a second year if the club decided they wanted him to carry on.

He had a great start to life at Old Trafford scoring in the club's opening three games of the season, including in the Community Shield against Leicester in the season's curtain raiser at Wembley.

Easily the highlight of his season was the brace in the final of the EFL Cup with the Swede once again lighting up England's national stadium to defeat a spirited Southampton to win Jose Mourinho's first major silverware with the Red Devils.

United are expected to make moves for Alvaro Morata to replace the out-going Swede and Marcus Rashford took the role as number nine at the end of the season and did a decent job.

Ibra is expected to be out injured till around December but he will no doubt have many offers come January as long as he gets back to 100% fitness. He will carry on training at United to get his fitness back.

We can all be glad we got to see Zlatan in the Premier League even if it's just for one season.
