We all remember the horrible scenes from Paris in November 2015 and hope they are never repeated but they may have been at the weekend had police not found an explosive by PSG's ground hours before their game against Bordeaux.

French police found a explosive near PSG's Parc des Princes ground on Saturday that was made up of four gas cylinders covered in petrol and linked to a mobile phone detonator.

The device was found in the early hours of Saturday morning, less than 12 hours before 47,537 people were inside the ground to watch PSG give Bordeaux a 6-2 hammering.

A source in France told the Daily Mail that five men had been arrested in connection with the potential terrorist attack saying, "The device was soaked in petrol and operational. It was found when a local resident of the building in Rue Chanez called the police shortly before 4.30am on Saturday.

"Five suspects were arrested at the scene, including a known radical with links to Islamist movements."

French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb explained how the man with known ties to 'Islamic movements' that was under surveillance from French authorities, was able to slip through their watch saying:

"When you watch someone, there is always a nebula, a friend ready to help the one who is on the file."

Whilst Collomb also hinted the building where the explosive may have been the target and not the stadium adding, "Blowing up a building in a chic neighbourhood shows that no one is safe. It shows that it could happen anywhere in France."

The terrible attacks in Paris nearly two years ago included targeting a concert in the middle of Paris as well as the international friendly between France and Germany.

Fans and players at the Stade de France were unhurt though.

The last thing anyone would want would be a return of the scenes of that horrible night in November.
