After returning to training with Everton following a difficult period in his life, Aaron Lennon could be set for a surprise loan move away from Goodison Park.

Two months ago, the former England international was detained by police under the Mental Health Act due to concerns about his welfare.

Lennon was found by police officers on the side of a road in Eccles, Salford on 30th April and was later admitted to hospital.

The 30-year-old received treatment for a 'stress-related illness', according to an official statement released by Everton at the time, but fortunately has been able to move on from the "difficult period" in his life as he took part in pre-season training with Everton at Finch Farm and has been with the club on their pre-season trip to Tanzania.

Just over two weeks ago, Lennon issued a lengthy statement in which he expressed his delight at being back on the training ground and thanked staff members at The Priory in Darlington and Altrincham, those who work at Salford Royal Hospital, staff members and teammates at Everton, his family and friends and the football community and general public on the whole for their support.

With Everton's influx of new signings, it may be difficult for Lennon to nail down a regular starting spot in the side and Simon Jones from the Daily Mail reports that the former Leeds United winger is a target for Harry Redknapp's Birmingham.

As we all know, 'Arry loves signing previous players and wants to bring Lennon, who he worked with at Tottenham, to St Andrews on a season-long deal. Lennon would of course have to step down to the Championship, but it would certainly provide him with regular first-team football - something that isn't guaranteed at Goodison Park next season.

After losing out on John Terry, who signed for Midlands rivals Aston Villa, Redknapp is desperate to add experience to his Birmingham squad in order to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League, and in true Redknapp fashion ,he has already declared his interest in Ashley Cole, Stewart Downing and Robbie Keane.

He is also hoping to add Villa defender Tommy Elphick to the ranks, with Simon Jones also reporting that the former Spurs and Portsmouth boss is hopeful that a deal will be struck in the next 24 hours.
