Wolves are continuing their hopes to stay in the Premier League beyond next season with a big signing in the form of Portugal number one keeper Rui Patricio.

Last season Wolves conquered the Championship meaning they return to the Premier League for the first time since 2012.

They were helped by signing the likes of Ruben Neves, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota and a link up with infamous super agent Jorge Mendes.

Now the west midlands club have pulled off a big signing ahead of their first season back in the top tier for six years with the free signing of former Sporting keeper Rui Patricio:

Patricio is currently in Russia with Portugal for the World Cup and is the national teams number one.

He has played his entire career as a Sporting player, having joined the club aged 12, but he cancelled his contract at the end of last season after an incident of violence by fans of the club at the training ground.

Around 55 fans broke into the training facilities and players were targets of an attack with striker Bas Dost being injured by the mob, in the lead up to the Portuguese cup final.

Wolves had reportedly been in talks over an €18 million move for Patricio, before he cancelled his contract, before Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho pulled out of the deal.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of him deciding to cancel his contract and in the end he's got his move on a free transfer, something that won't please De Carvalho.

Patricio has earned 70 caps so far for Portugal and helped them win the Euros two years ago, he has also won multiple cup competitions with Sporting.

It's an excellent signing for Wolves campaign to stay up.
