Manchester United Fans Start Petition To Remove Ashley Young, Phil Jones And Chris Smalling

The trio of defenders are seen as some as the very problem with Manchester United right now and plenty are signing.

One Manchester United fan is so fed up with Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling being at the club that he's set up a petition to get rid of them, and he's got plenty of others on board.

There's a lot of problems with Manchester United's current team that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to find a way to fix, either on the training ground or in the transfer window.

After a season where they conceded more goals in the league than they had before it seems pretty obvious that defence might be the first place to fix.

Solskjaer is trying to sign a centre back, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Harry Maguire and Issa Diop high on his list, and right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka another target.

However one fan has had enough of some of the players playing in those positions currently and can't wait for replacements so he's started a petition to get rid of three of them:

In the description for the petition fan 'Rizzy Rizzy' says, "Manchester United is arguably the biggest club in the world with fans from every corner of the globe. The past six years have been torture for millions of fans who invest their time, energy, emotions and hard-earned money into supporting this once great club. We've had to endure not only countless bad results but the football has also been consistently dull & uninspiring to watch.

"There are undoubtedly complex & intrinsic issues at Manchester United football club which nobody can quite put their finger on. However there are also glaringly obvious problems at United which anybody with eyes can see every time they tune in to watch Manchester United play football. There are players in our first team squad who wouldn't even be good enough to be on the bench for our rivals. Pep Guardiola's first season at Man City was deemed a failure. He then sold 8 of his players who weren't good enough and went on to win the league with a record number of points the following season.

"If we want to be in the same conversation as the European elites such Barcelona and Real Madrid then we have to ask ourselves; What would Barcelona and Real Madrid do if they had players like Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in their squad? Exactly. They would have them removed by any means necessary, even if it meant taking a financial hit. What did Manchester United do with those players? They offered them new, lucrative, long-term contracts for them to stay at the club. These contract offers came about after the sacking of José Mourinho, when everyone thought that the club were turning a new page. Who is reckless and inconsiderate enough to make these kind of decisions? This is the reason why I'm asking all United fans who care about this club to sign this petition so that at the very least we get some answers."

Last season club captain Antonio Valencia, who has since left the club, played very little football leading to Young often wearing the armband.

The former left winger, turned right back, was described as the worst right back and captain that the club had ever had.

Jones and Smalling have often been the butt of jokes at Old Trafford, especially Jones, and their continued place in the starting lineup seen as one of the biggest issues with the team.

All three men have signed new contracts with the Premier League club, who haven't come close to winning the title since Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in 2013, in the last 18 months.

Who should United sign this summer?
