Everyone can forgetting about challenging for the title already this season but now the real battle to be in the top four really starts. Mauricio Pochettino wants to add two players to his side to boost his chances.

In the last two seasons Spurs have famously put pressure on both Leicester City and Chelsea as the last contenders standing, even though in reality they had very little chance of actually winning the league.

Mauricio Pochettino would have hoped that his side could continue to challenge for the title this season but as well as their own form not quite being up to scratch there's also Manchester City's being on another level.

Spurs had dropped points in two of their previous four games but beat Burnley on Saturday evening to put themselves two points ahead of the Clarets and one behind fourth placed Liverpool.

So in an attempt to push his side into the top four Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing to January signings. According to the Express Spurs hope to bring in Everton's Ross Barkley and Manchester United's Luke Shaw in January.

Barkley's contract with the Toffees finishes at the end of the season and he has long been rumoured with moving to either Spurs or Chelsea.

In the summer he was set to move to Stamford Bridge but pulled out of the deal and has yet to play for Everton this season after a having surgery on a ruptured hamstring.

Shaw's future at Manchester United is in question because of the lack of game time he has got under Jose Mourinho despite seemingly being over his injury problems.

The Red Devils look short of a left back, with Ashley Young filling in for them but not a long term prospect, but Jose doesn't seem to trust the former Saint.

United could sell Shaw but Mourinho might want Danny Rose as part of any deal or he could move for Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon.
