Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Real Madrid last summer because he wasn't happy that the club were willing to spend big on Neymar, that's according to one former president of the club.

Last summer wasn't the first time that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave Real Madrid. In fact the most recent time had only been in 2016 when he claimed he'd never play for the club again after he didn't feel they'd backed him on his tax evasion case.

He would of course end up playing for them for another two years and won two more Champions Leagues in the process.

However after winning the second of those titles, and third in a row with the Spanish side, was followed by the five time Ballon d'Or winner questioning if he'd stay past the summer and so it proved.

After nine years at the Bernabeu, in which he was linked with a return to Manchester United at everyone, he left for Juventus for around £90 million.

Now former Real president Ramon Calderon has revealed that the former United winger wasn't happy for two reasons, money and Neymar. Speaking to Radio Villa, Calderon said:

"Cristiano asked for a raise after winning the Champions League and Florentino denied it.

"Cristiano also got angry because he heard that Madrid would be willing to pay a lot of money for Neymar.

"Florentino told him that if he brought in a cheque for €100m he would let him go and that's how it was."

It was Calderon who signed Ronaldo, and not Florentino Perez, and the former president explained that the current man wasn't very thankful to his predecessor, saying, "Florentino did not accept that Cristiano was a signing of mine. I don't deny that he has been a great president, but he does not accept well the inheritances that he receives.

"The same thing happened to him with [Iker] Casillas, Raul, [Arjen] Robben and [Wesley] Sneijder."

Ronaldo doesn't look like adding to his five Champions League titles after Juventus lost 2-0 in midweek against Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

He will get a league title in a third country having won them in England and Spain.

Will Neymar join Real?
