How much would you pay for Neymar if you were a club with more money than sense? Well you'd need rather a lot less of the sense if you were to meet his new transfer release clause.
It's summer so inevitably there has to be a stupid story about someone signing Neymar, and by someone I obviously mean Manchester United because you could only get away with linking the Brazilian forward to them and PSG.
This pre-season's story came from Diario Gol who reported yesterday that Jose Mourinho wanted his team to forget all about trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and instead focus attentions on Neymar.
Jose really wants Neymar, apparently! File this transfer away in the 'not in a million years' pile. Image: PA

For those of you wondering I'm pretty certain they won't be signing either of those players this summer, or any summer for that matter!
Any club who do have eyes on the former Santos forward as the man they'd like to improve their frontline, and let's face it there aren't many strike forces he wouldn't make better, will have to pay a lot for the privilege.
According to Marca the 25 year-old's transfer release clause has gone up. The contract that he signed last March had an automatic increase in it as of July 1st. So from today clubs would have to fork out around £192.5 million for his services.
"Buy now for less than £200 million" Well when you put it like that could you afford to not have one? Image: PA

However if a club wants to cash in on this 'bargain' then they'll have to be 'quick' as a further clause in the player's contract sees that same transfer release clause go up to £216 million on July 1st 2018!
So for the record Neymar would currently cost you two Paul Pogbas and an Alberto Moreno and to be honest the addition of the Spaniard makes me definitely reconsider the whole two heads, or in this case three, are better than one.
Pogba would no longer be the world record transfer fee if Neymar left, by a long way. Image: PA

To be honest in the case of Neymar, Lionel Messi et al these transfer release clauses are only there because they have to be in Spain and they're so over the top no one's ever paying them.
Still, it's nice to know how much the player would cost- just 10,131 years of my wages.
