Josh Harrop may have scored on his debut for Manchester United but just month later the youngster has rejected the Red Devils instead choosing a lift in the Championship.

At the end of last season's Premier League campaign Jose Mourinho started caring as much about the matches as most of us do about politics for the rest of the year that isn't during the election.

The 13 time Premier League champions realised that their chances of getting into the top four were ever diminishing and pretty much gave up.

Instead Mourinho and his team decided to concentrate all of their efforts on the Europa League in order to qualify for next season's Champions League.

That led to a game on the last day of the season against Crystal Palace with a team that started with five players from the clubs under 21s team including Josh Harrop.

The 21 year old opened the scoring with a great striker but today the club confirmed that the player had joined Preston North End in the Championship.

Speaking to his new club's website later Harrop revealed that he'd actually turned down a contract offer with his former club, instead dropping down a division for free in order to play more football:

"I'm delighted to be here, it's a new start for me to get things going in my career and I'm buzzing to get playing and to make an impact in the team.

"I'm 21 now and I'm confident in myself, I need to play first team football to get myself out there. That wasn't guaranteed at United, even though they offered me a new contract it was very limited in game time and so I couldn't take that risk at my age."

It's a brave move from the youngster to decide to leave Old Trafford but the truth is that he probably wouldn't get much football if he'd stayed.

It will be interesting to see how he does in the Championship but with that determination it'll be surprise if it doesn't work out for him.
