Rafael Benitez is eyeing up new talent ahead of the January transfer window, and it appears he's identified one of his targets.

The Spanish gaffer was somewhat frustrated following his summer business. But he's hoping to put that right once the window rolls around in the new year.

They continue to be muted with a host of players. Newcastle United were briefly linked with a move for ex-striker Andy Carroll. And that's not the only reunion the club are believed to be looking at.

According to reports, Newcastle are considering a transfer for Paris Saint-Germain's Hatem Ben Arfa. The French winger is deemed surplus to requirement by Unai Emery as he seeks for a move away.

Following PSG's slew of signings in the summer, Ben Arfa has fallen down the pecking order. He was set to complete a transfer in the close-season, but he refused the deal.

His situation with the club then got messy when he was forced to train alongside the reserves. His legal team threatened to take action.

While Ben Arfa's days with the French outfit appear to be numbered, he's reportedly open to a return to England where he enjoyed spells at both Newcastle and Hull City.

And a sensational come back could be on the cards. Ben Arfa excited the St. James Park faithfuls with his attacking intent, and ability to create something out of nothing.

Who could forget his goal against Bolton?!

The 30-year-old initially joined Newcastle on a loan deal before making it permanent. He then spent three years at the club, compiling over 70 league appearances scoring 13 goals in the process.
