Liverpool fans were full of excitement at the idea of signing Nabil Fekir when the transfer was first reported last week but the player's dad has now dampened those spirits by denying the transfer.

The season for Liverpool has definitely gone well. They are extremely likely to guarantee Champions League football at the weekend and they still have the final of this season's competition to play, and you'd be an idiot to write them off winning.

Already people are tipping Jurgen Klopp's men to be the main danger for Pep Guardiola's ridiculously dominant Manchester City. With Virgil van Dijk purchased in January and Naby Keita to come in the summer there's already improvement in the squad.

Of course Klopp won't be able to rest on his laurels. City were utterly brilliant this season and will improve and rivals Manchester United will no doubt want another crack at a title they haven't won since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Liverpool fans would have been getting very excited about one new signing when reports in France suggested they were going to sign Lyon forward Nabil Fekir however speaking in France the player's dad has rejected the rumours, saying:

"Nabil in Liverpool, that's wrong. I hear there are arrangements, stuff like that. I was surprised.

"I can deny this information right now: it's not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close.I can guarantee you that he never met (Jurgen Klopp).

"His dream is to play in the Champions League with his boyhood club."

L'Equipe, who reported the transfer, said that the 24 year old, had already held talks with Klopp and had agreed to move to the Premier League whether Lyon make the Champions League next season.

With two games left the club that Fekir has been with his whole career currently sit in second place in Ligue 1 and three teams get a Champions League place. The problem is that only two points separate them and fourth place Marseille, with Monaco sitting between them.

The Frenchman has scored 17 goals in the league this season and set up teammates for another seven and has quite the reputation for a stunning goal, especially a free kick.

Whether or not Fekir ends up at Anfield remains up in the air.
