A phone call from a mystery Manchester United first team player to the club's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward was the catalyst for Jose Mourinho's sacking, following the 3-1 loss to Liverpool.
The past eight days have been a whirlwind of emotions and actions at Old Trafford after Ed Woodward surprisingly sacked Jose Mourinho following Manchester United's 3-1 loss to rivals Liverpool.
It took less than an hour after the decision to sack Mourinho for the first reaction to make the headlines with Paul Pogba's scheduled Instagram post causing all sorts of controversy and leading Gary Neville to suggest the Frenchman should 'do one.'
The mood at United certainly seemed to be lifted with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being appointed as manager until the end of the season.

The former Manchester United forward certainly got things off to a good start by beating Cardiff City 5-1. United players looked to be enjoying themselves again.
That certainly didn't seem to be the case under Jose with the former Real Madrid boss constantly at war with a different player.
Now it seems that one player was the very reason for Mourinho's sacking. According to the Mirror one player phoned Ed Woodward in the wake of the Liverpool defeat to tell him that Mourinho 'must go.'
That reportedly led to late night phone calls to the Glazer family that would eventually lead to the United manager losing his job.

The report doesn't name the player but do state that that it was a key member of the team, one used regularly by Mourinho, and that players celebrated the news of his sacking.
The paper also say that the decision was a huge surprise to the 55 year old who thought he was coming to the Carrington training ground on the Tuesday morning to discuss transfers with Woodward.
Of course when he arrived he instead found out that he was going to be spending Christmas back home with his family with a huge pay out.

There were previously reports of Pogba high fiving players on hearing the news of his former manager's sacking whilst Alexis Sanchez also apparently had a bet with Marcos Rojo over whether the Portuguese boss would be sacked, something the Chilean rejected.
It's likely we won't find out who picked up the phone to Woodward anytime soon.
