Manchester United have offered David de Gea the chance to become the highest paid goalkeeper in the world with an incredible £350,000-a-week deal reportedly on the table.

Not much has gone right at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013 but David de Gea's form has usually been one of the few shining lights.

Unfortunately for United the Spaniard has just one year left on his deal at Old Trafford and the club have so far been unable to get him to sign a new contract. However, according to BBC Sport, the club have now offered him a new deal which would make him the most well paid goalkeeper in football.

According to the Daily Mail that deal for the 28-year-old will be for £350,000-a-week for the next five years, netting him a huge £91 million during the duration of the contract.

De Gea currently earns £240,000-a-week and wants to earn similar to top earner at the club Alexis Sanchez due to how important he is to the team.

In the six years since Fergie left the 13 times Premier League champions the goalkeeper has been named the team's Player of the Year on four occasions.

Before winning that fourth award no one had won the Sir Matt Busby Trophy so many times, with Cristiano Ronaldo's three trophies putting him in second place and five others on two wins each.

The former Atletico Madrid keeper hasn't had a good year since last summer's World Cup, when he made a couple of high profile errors for Spain.

Last season with United was also his worst in some time but it hasn't stopped the likes of PSG and Juventus being linked with De Gea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won't want to have to think about replacing his goalkeeper, and will want the contract to be wrapped up soon, as he's got other things to think about.

The Premier League side have signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka already this summer and Marcus Rashford has signed a new deal too.

It's likely that United, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season, will add at least a centre back and central midfielder to their squad before next season.

Can they keep hold of De Gea?
