Manchester City Set To Drop Their Bid For Alexis Sanchez

It could be good news for Manchester United who are also chasing the Arsenal forward.

It seems all the roads that Alexis Sanchez has to walk to get to Manchester City are winding and the Premier League leaders may have even put a diversion sign up for the Arsenal forward in the latest twist in the tale.

Alexis Sanchez has looked destined for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City ever since the two were linked back in the summer but the two time champions took too long to make a bid and failed with a £60 million deadline day move.

That though felt like a delay of the inevitable and a January or summer move still felt on, depending if City wanted to spend money on their number one target or wait to let him arrive on free.

The news that Manchester United had joined to queue felt like the speeding up of his move to the Etihad Stadium but now a move to Old Trafford could be on.

According to many reports Guardiola's side have stepped away from any move for him this month, refusing to spend the £35 million Arsenal want plus the player's £300,000-a-week wage demand. The league leaders are willing to seem him move to United rather than pay.

The Red Devils are believed to be ready to offer both the selling club and the player whatever they want and are readying a £35 million bid whilst a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also a possibility.

In the summer Arsenal had wanted Raheem Sterling as part of the deal but City refused, considering his 14 league goals this season that does seem like it was a pretty sound decision by City.

However now it looks like their refusal to spend on their number one target could see him instead move to their rivals, a situation that could see them end up with egg on their face, even if it has minimal to no impact on this season's title chase.

The news coincides with the Citizens being given the boost that Gabriel Jesus is likely to only be out for 2-3 weeks when the original thinking was his absence would be longer.

Guardiola's side only want to pay £20 million to reunite the Spaniard with his former Barcelona forward but that won't be enough now that United have thrown their hat in the ring.
