For the second time in his career Steven Gerrard will leave his boyhood club Liverpool but will he be back at Anfield at some point in the future? Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet certainly hopes so.

At one point it felt like Steven Gerrard would never leave Liverpool. Like in Pirates of the Caribbean and Will's dad, Bootstrap Bill, he would just merge with the walls. Very much part of the ship, part of the crew.

Then Gerrard's playing career started winding down under Brendan Rodgers and the former England captain still felt like he had a couple of years playing left in him so he left for LA Galaxy.

Check out Steven Gerrard's most memorable moments:

However when his playing days were up he returned to become the club's under 18 manager and start his path towards management. Now we know that Gerrard will continue that path north of the border at Rangers next season.

The news that the 37 year old had signed a four year deal was confirmed earlier today.

Former teammate Simon Mignolet tweeted to congratulate Gerrard and also hinted that he'd like to see the former midfielder back at the club one day as manager:

Ever since the former PFA Player of the Year went into coaching he's been talked about as a future Liverpool manager and any success at Ibrox will lead to further talk that he could be the man to take over from Jurgen Klopp eventually.

The Reds do have a history of employing former players as managers with Bob Paisley, Phil Taylor, Ronnie Moran, Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness all having gone from the pitch to the touchline in

There's no doubt that Gers will be a club with an even bigger amount of media attention next season, both north and south of the border, now that Gerrard is set to be their manager.

Will he be a success at Rangers and return to Liverpool to manage them in the future?
