Could there be another contract crisis at Arsenal?

Out of the frying pan and into another frying pan, that's how it must feel to be Arsene Wenger or anyone connected to Arsenal when it comes to players contracts being close to running down and now Reiss Nelson could be next.

Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Mathieu Flamini, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna are all players to have left Arsenal with their contracts running out or having run out already.

Alexis Sanchez will join that list sometime this month and then Mesut Ozil will follow when his contract runs out at the end of the season, it is a popular trope from Arsene Wenger's later years as Arsenal boss that shows no signs of slowing.

The Gunners also have Jack Wilshere out of contract this season with Aaron Ramsey's deal running out in the summer of 2019. However there's even more troubling news when it comes to one of the club's brightest prospects.

18 year old Reiss Nelson is out of contract next summer and the midfielder is being eyed up by some of Europe's elite. Real Madrid and PSG are interested according to the Daily Mail, with little progress made on a new deal for him.

19 year old Nelson only made his first appearance for Arsenal at the beginning of the season in the Community Shield match at Wembley against Chelsea that the Gunners won on penalties but he's actually been with the Emirates club for the past 10 years.

He's made 11 appearances in all for Arsene Wenger's side this season with most of his games coming in the Europa League, the competition that gives Arsenal the best chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Reiss Nelson retweeted Jan Vertonghen's 2012 'we are s**t' tweet just minutes after Tottenham's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City tonight.

The Arsenal youngster must have been watching on with the rest of us as Mauricio Pochettino's men were put to the sword by Pep Guardiola's hugely impressive league leaders.

It was a devastating performance from City, with Kevin de Bruyne running the show in an almost-flawless display.

And it must have made Arsenal fans happy to see their fierce rivals go down so emphatically.

We include Nelson in those fans, as the Gunners youngster retweeted a post from Spurs defender Vertonghen in 2012 which read: "Little update. We are s***!!"

He's since removed the retweet, but not before some supporters caught it and screengrabbed:

Arsenal fans will absolutely love that as they celebrate a win today and moving two points above Tottenham in the Premier League table.

As for Nelson, the damage is done - he's now a Gunners hero regardless of what he does on the pitch.
