European Giants Eye Move For Lyon's Memphis Depay

Manchester United could scupper any deal with their buy back clause for their former winger.

Once upon a time Memphis Depay was the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Whilst that moniker has long since disappeared the Dutchman is someway near back to his best and one of Europe's biggest names is eyeing a summer move for him.

Depay was the big dog of the Eredivisie when he was the Dutch league's top goalscorer and a league winner with Feyenoord in the 2014/15 season and attracted interest from all the biggest clubs in Europe.

At one point it looked very much like the Dutch forward was going to head to Liverpool but instead Louis van Gaal came calling and signed the player who had made an impact for him at the World Cup a year before for Manchester United.

But things didn't go well for him at Old Trafford, and it didn't go great for Depay either.

He was sold to Lyon in January of 2017 with Jose Mourinho unable to find a spot for him and life in France has been better for him. He's impressed so much in Ligue 1 that, according to Tuttosport, he's one of AC Milan's top three targets for the summer when a £25 million bid could be enough to secure his services.

The Italian newspaper reckons that the San Siro side will be looking to add a winger to their ranks in the summer and their three main targets are Depay, Marco Reus and Leon Bailey.

Depay would be the Goldilocks choice when it comes to age with Bailey considered too young and a bit inexperienced whereas Reus is older and has had numerous high profile injuries.

The other pair would also be considered to be more expensive than the Dutchman and considering the high outlay on transfer fees last summer that could suit Milan down to the ground.

Depay definitely earned a spot in a United's long list of flops:

In his first half season after leaving the Premier League the 24 year-old winger scored five goals in just 17 appearances and has continued that decent form with another 12 goals and nine assists for Lyon this season.

Milan are still fighting to get into the Champions League next season after a big upturn in fortunes under Gennaro Gattuso and the likes of Roma and Inter Milan slipping up.

Depay at Milan could be a very good match.
