Crystal Palace Consider Surprise Name To Replace Injured Christian Benteke

So far Roy Hodgson's team have failed to score a Premier League goal this season and things are getting a bit desperate.

When you've gone till the end of September without scoring and broken the record for longest without scoring in the Premier League the last thing you need is your main striker getting injured. Roy Hodgson has his eye on a free transfer as a replacement though.

So it's nearly October and Crystal Palace have already had two managerial appointments and one sacking before they've even had a Premier League goal. That's six games or 540 minutes without troubling the scorers.

Unsurprisingly that's left them bottom of the table with zero points, because whilst they've not been scoring they've also not kept a clean sheet as their defence have conceded 13 times.

If that wasn't bad enough this week they lost their top striker in the form of Christian Benteke. The former Liverpool front man was ruled out for up to six weeks yesterday because of a knee injury.

That has left Hodgson really needing to add a striker outside of the transfer window, leaving him with only free agents. According to the Independent the south London club are looking at possibly bringing another former Liverpool striker in the form of Rickie Lambert into the club.

Lambert played for Liverpool, his dream move, but things didn't really turn out for him at Anfield. Image: PA

Lambert last played for table topping Cardiff City in the Championship last season but was actually released in January and hasn't played since. His fitness will currently be a concern but he has been training to keep it up.

The former Southampton striker reportedly has a long term admirer in Palace chairman Steve Parish who, along with director of football Dougie Freedman, is currently looking for Benteke replacements.

Yep, this pretty much sums up life at Selhurst Park. Image: PA

Palace squad player Kleton Perntreou was released by the club this week and the goalkeeper suggested he was being moved on to make way for a new signing at Selhurst Park.

Things don't get easier for Hodgson and his team with a trip to Old Trafford to come up against Jose Mourinho's Manchester United on Saturday, followed by hosting Chelsea next month!
