Celtic have persuaded Karamoko Dembele to sign a contract extension with the club.

The Hoops star shot to fame last year after playing for the club's development team at the age of 13.

He made headlines around the world, adding to the stories already written about his talent in the club's youth academy.

But that attention also led to numerous links with a host of big clubs - and some may have considered it a matter of time before Dembele left the Scottish champions.

However, they've managed to sign him up to a SFA Youth Registration deal, which will see him attend St Ninian's Performance School while playing for Celtic.

And that should come as a massive boost considering the inevitable interest from top European clubs.

In a statement on celticfc.net, Dembele said: "I'm delighted to have signed at such a wonderful club and I think this is the right place for me to fulfil my potential and achievements. And my goal is to reach the first team.

"It's not going to be easy becoming a footballer at such a big club, but I will show hard work, commitment and the biggest one for me, responsibility.

"With Celtic being responsible for my development and what I do in my football career, I have wonderful people around me nurturing my talent and it's up to me to put the hard work in."

It could be good news for Scotland too, as Dembele is also eligible to play for England and has turned out for their youth teams already too.

He'll be in the SFA set-up by attending the performance school and that may mean he has to represent the Scottish national team at youth level.
