They last competed with the countries finest in 1982/83, yet clinched promotion from the Championship on Monday and are the favourites to ultimately claim top spot ahead of big-spenders Newcastle United.

With two games left in the 2016/17 campaign, and eyes on the Championships title, Brighton are plotting transfers for next season.

And it appears the club have identified their first recruit. According to reports from The Telegraph, Chris Hughton is reportedly interested in snapping up Kevin Stewart.

The 23-year-old is also attracting plenty of attention from a host of Championship sides who are keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Last year, after his is debut for Jurgen Klopp's side, Stewart was rewarded with a brand spanking new contract which keeps him at the club till 2022.

But it's believed that the German boss is reluctant to let him go. Though he could be tempted should a lucrative offer gets tabled. While the lure of regular first-team football may prize Stewart away from Anfield.

Brighton host Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, and have the chance to secure the title with a victory.
