Barcelona Line Up Another Target In Case Of Philippe Coutinho Failure

Barcelona Line Up Another Target In Case Of Philippe Coutinho Failure

Coutinho either has or hasn't handed in a transfer request at Liverpool so Barcelona are lining up a different target, just in case.

Philippe Coutinho is the transfer saga with more twists and turns that your favourite rollercoaster. Just in case it ends with disappointment for Barcelona they've got their eyes on another target.

The potential transfer of the 25 year old from Liverpool to Barca has already had enough change of direction to last a whole transfer window, as it seems it might, even before today's events.

In the morning Liverpool put out a statement that they wouldn't be selling the player this summer but that was just the start. Then there were reports that Coutinho had handed in an official transfer request, even though some refuted that point.

Quite frankly it left us all non the wiser and in no better place to suggest the move will or won't happen compared to what we knew yesterday. Barcelona are clearly just as confused as everyone else as they're apparently eyeing up alternatives.

According to the Independent if they can't get Coutinho then they'll be looking elsewhere in the Premier League with Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen next on their list of potential transfers this summer.

Eriksen has been extremely impressive in his time at White Hart Lane and is almost as important as the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane. Image: PA

The report claims that the Catalan side have already made a move when it comes to Eriksen and have made the first steps through intermediaries and see the player as an eventual replacement for Andres Iniesta.

If the La Liga side are fed of dealing with the Reds then, as the Independent rightly point out, dealing with Tottenham and their chairman Daniel Levy could be even more frustrating.

Levy is well known for his stubborn negotiating and wouldn't want to lose the former Ajax man. Considering Kyle Walker left for £50 million they'd want a substantial fee to even consider Eriksen leaving.

It's starting to be a tough week for Spurs with Danny Rose making it sounds like he no longer wants to be at the club.

They'll be desperate to keep hold of Eriksen.
