Arsene Wenger Close To Signing Deal To Become AC Milan Manager

Arsene Wenger's spell away from football could be set for an end with a report claiming that he is on the verge of agreeing to replace Gennaro Gattuso as manager of AC Milan.

Last summer Arsene Wenger called time on 22 years as manager of Arsenal. It was quite obvious that the Frenchman had jumped before he was pushed and didn't really want to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has been out of work since but recently admittedly that he expected to be back in work sometime in the new year with the 69 year old being linked with nice roles at Real Madrid and PSG.

With Julen Lopetegui having been sacked as manager of Real following Los Blancos' 5-1 loss in the recent Clasico the chances of Wenger popping up in Madrid's capital increased.

However now it looks like that won't be happening with the former Monaco boss linked with a move to AC Milan to take over from Gennaro Gattuso as manager.

The former midfield enforcer isn't doing a bad job with the Rossoneri in fourth place in Serie A but, according to France Football, the club have been in contact with Wenger and talks are 'close to succeeding.'

Having been linked with the manager's job at the Bernabeu and a sporting director role at PSG, with Bayern Munich also discussed with Niko Kovac under pressure, it would be a surprise to see Wenger rock up at the San Siro.

Milan were struggling earlier in the season and the late derby loss to Inter a few weeks back put former Milan midfielder Gattuso under some pressure but three wins in a row have put them into fourth in Serie A, in the Champions League positions.

Elliot Management Corporation took over from Chinese owners Li Yonghong in the summer and it would seem they aren't happy with their managers performance and want to bring in their own man.

As well as Gattuso other former Milan players Paolo Maldini and Leonardo have high profile roles at the club and Wenger would be joining a structure with a sports director, in Leonardo, one he only worked at Arsenal with in his last season.

Could Wenger soon be in Serie A and do you think it's a good move?
