Arsenal Eyeing Up Marc Overmars Alternative From Barcelona

The north London side are hoping to steal in ahead of their rivals to make a very important signing from the boardroom.

Arsenal fans have held protests to get rid of Arsene Wenger in the not so distant past but often it is the board who have been at fault for the club's failings. Now they are hoping to sign someone from Barcelona's board.

It has been 13 years since the Invincibles went the whole season without being beaten in the Premier League and that is the last time that Arsene Wenger and Arsenal were able to lift the title.

In the years since the Frenchman has looked on the verge of leaving several times, including at the end of last season, but still he endures and still he goes through the peaks and troughs that are familiar with the Emirates.

The Arsenal board and how the club is run off the pitch has also come under scrutiny over recent years with Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov often in the middle of a power struggle and the American criticised for not coming up with enough money for transfers.

Now Kroenke is hoping to sign up a friend of his to help him. According to Sport the English side are hoping to sign Raül Sanllehí from Barcelona when his deal runs out on December 1st with the Spanish side's former sporting director thought to be being brought in to help with transfers.

Sanllehi was well known for his dealings with transfers from South America and was influential in his role in bringing Neymar from Santos to the Camp Nou back in 2013, although not as influential as the player's dad of course.

Wenger has never previously worked with a 'director of football' type role above him and it's unlikely that the man from the continent will get that official title.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona winger Marc Overmars had been linked with a similar role helping with transfers but he now looks set to stay at Ajax with another target found.

When will Arsenal next be champions?
