Just a day after Arsenal were blitzed 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in an embarrassing day to be an Arsenal fan, some reports have surfaced claiming Alexis Sanchez has handed in a transfer request.

Shehab Khan, a reporter and columnist for The Independent, Tweeted the news this evening.

Sanchez, who is refusing to sign a new contract at the Emirates, has been the source of constant speculation surrounding his future for a while now, with a flurry of reports regularly coming in regarding his situation.

He was restored to the Arsenal starting line-up for the drubbing inflicted by Liverpool yesterday, and displayed more of the same frustrated body language that we saw at the back-end of last season.

The Chilean was spotted laughing on the bench when substituted in the second half and following the game posted a worrying looking message for Arsenal fans when simply posted a picture of himself dejected from the game, with no caption necessary.

UPDATE:

Shehab Khan has since clarified his Sanchez-related Tweet, with journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke, who also works for The Independent, since saying that Arsenal have denied reports that Sanchez has finally handed in a transfer request, in a Tweet that his colleague Khan Retweeted.

Sanchez has a year remaining on his current deal at Arsenal and with nothing to suggest he will be extending his stay with the club, the Gunners will be forced to let him go on a free next summer if he does not move on before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Will Sanchez leave Arsenal or will he stick around for one final season?

Sound off in the comments.
