It looks like Alex Song's time as a free agent is coming to an end.

The former Cameroon international has been without a club ever since his release from Russian side Rubin Kazan, which came to due to financial difficulties at the club.

Song had been training with old club Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger inviting his former player back to the London Colney facility to help with his fitness-building - though he completely dismissed talk of him re-signing with the Gunners.

According to reports, the former West Ham man has travelled to Spain for a trial with Real Betis, with a view to a earning a contract with the La Liga outfit if he impresses.

Along with his former Arsenal colleague Samir Nasri, the 30-year old was linked with a move to Serie A's bottom club Benavento after they showed interest, but Betis looks set to be his next destination.

Song will be training alongside some of his former Barcelona teammates, as Marc Bartra and Cristian Tello both play for the club.

Quique Setién's side, who are eighth in the Spanish top tier at the moment, also includes Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell and former Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia.
