AC Milan Make Their Ninth And 10th Signings Of The Season

The sleeping giants of Serie A have had a very big transfer window as they try to get closer to Juventus and back in the Champions League.

Probably one of the greatest cliches in football in recent years is that AC Milan are the sleeping giants of Italian football so perhaps it's time to waking up the giants after they made their ninth and 10th signings of the summer.

Cliches are generally so overused because they're normally true. Lines like 'the next goal is important,' 'Jose Mourinho's third season is always a disaster,' and 'you can't rule out the Germans' will always end up being 100% correct...well it would have been before Russia.

That being the case saying Milan have been the sleeping giants of European football might not exactly be the most original thing to say but has certainly been true in the last few years.

The Rossoneri won Serie A in 2011, came second in 2012 and third in 2013 but since then they've not finished inside the top five finishing eighth, 10th, seventh, sixth and sixth.

In that time Juventus have absolutely dominated Serie A but it's time for Milan, and city rivals Inter, to fight back and they've done so with a big summer in the transfer market.

On Friday, the day the transfer window shut in Italy, Milan signed two more players, their ninth and 10th signings of the window, in the form of Spanish forward Samu Castillejo and Uruguayan midfielder Diego Laxalt.

Gennaro Gattuso has been busy in the window and he's come up with some very impressive signings for the team.

Chief among them is the double move that saw Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara move from Juventus to the San Siro and Leonardo Bonucci go back to the Old Lady, just one year after signing for Milan.

Nikola Kalinic joined from Fiorentina, although he was then sold off to Atletico Madrid, Fabio Borini joined full time after last season's loan, Tiemoué Bakayoko has joined on loan from Chelsea and Pepe Reina, Alen Halilovic and Ivan Strinic have all joined on free transfers.

On the same day brought in their latest signings they also saw Carlos Bacca and midfielder Gianluca Lapadula leave the club.

Has Milan's alarm clock finally gone off this summer?
