Virgil Van Dijk Has Been Named The Best Premier League Player This Season

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has secured the number one spot in FourFourTwo magazine's 50 best Premier League players for the 2018/19 season.

Virgil van Dijk has been named the best Premier League player of the season.

FourFourTwo magazine ranked the 27-year-old Liverpool centre-back at the top of its list for the 50 best players in the 2018/19 season.

The Netherlands captain, who has been nominated for PFA Players' Player of the Year and is also the frontrunner for the award, has been in fantastic form for the Reds and helped them challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League crown.

Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling finished second and third respectively, while Chelsea's Eden Hazard came fourth and Liverpool's Sadio Mané secured the final spot in the top five.

Van Dijk recently admitted that it was essential for Liverpool to win their remaining matches in the league if they want to be in for a shot of winning the title.

"We have three games left and we are going to try and win all of them. It's going to be very hard, but that's what we're looking to do," he told FourFourTwo.

"We did our job [at Cardiff]. We had to stay patient, but it was a very mature performance and it was good to get the three points.

"Our next challenge is going to be on Friday, so we'll see."
