Being in a relegation battle is tough for both fans and players alike.

A dire run of four games without a win, including three successive defeats, has left German side Mainz in a real relegation dogfight in the Bundesliga.

Martin Schmidt's side are currently in 15th place out of the 18 teams in the top tier of German football, but their defeats to the bottom two sides in their last three games has put them in a very worrying position.

Mainz lost to bottom club Darmstadt a few weeks back and this weekend suffered another humiliating loss when they were beaten 2-1 by Ingolstadt away from home.

They looked to be on course for a point when an own goal from Ingolstadt's Marvin Matip in the 71st minute cancelled out Romain Bregerie's strike, but a mis-hit cross from Swiss right-back Florent Hadergjonaj mere minutes later saw Mainz succumb to another disappointing loss.

Players and fans were deflated at the final whistle, with Mainz above the relegation play-off place only by goal difference.

But one fan was remaining positive and decided it was necessary to transfer that positivity to the players on the pitch.

At the end of the game, cameras caught the moment a supporter managed to get onto the pitch, organise all of the players in the huddle and provided a passionate team talk.

We've seen former Hull boss Phil Brown do his infamous half-time team talk on the pitch after being 4-0 down at Manchester City in 2008 but this is next level. The fan who can be spotted earlier in the clip with a megaphone, is pitchside, motivating the players and they genuinely appear to be listening to him as he preaches and gesticulates.

It will be interesting to see if the supporter's words hit home with the Mainz squad in their upcoming game.

Die Nullfünfer take on second-placed RB Leipzig at home tomorrow evening in desperate need of a win, while relegation rivals Augsburg and Ingolstadt meet at the WWK Arena.
