Marcus Rashford stepped up to the mark once again for Manchester United last night, bending in a free-kick with devastating effect to give the Red Devils a vital away goal and victory in the Europa League semi final first leg against Celta Vigo.

The 19-year old prodigy has been doing the business in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament injury in the latter stages of the Europa League quarter final second leg win over Anderlecht at Old Trafford last month.

Rashford rose to the occasion, scoring a wonderfully taken goal to make it 2-1 in extra time and secure United's passage to the semi-finals.

He was at it again last night, displaying an ability that few people knew that he had in his locker.

The youngster's supreme dribbiling ability, pace, energy and finishing has been there to see ever since he burst onto the scene last season, but Rashford demonstrated his quality from distance when he stepped up and caught out Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez from a difficult angle 20 yards out.

Social media was absolutely loving Rashford's latest bit of mastery, with Gary Lineker producing the pick of the reactions:

Jose Mourinho showered praise on the match-winner, and revealed that Rashford had been staying behind after training to perfect his set-pieces.

A Manchester United player who regularly practiced free-kicks after training providing the goods when an opportunity arrived in a game - sounds similar, doesn't it?

It didn't take long for a comparison between Rashford's set-piece stunner and one of David Beckham's many mastertrokes from range - the United legend's sublime curling free-kick against Everton back in May 2003 was eerily similar to what Rashford conjured up last night.

The angle, distance, technique and result all similar.

United now have to handle business in the Premier League as they await the challenge of Arsenal on Sunday, with both teams vying for a spot in the Champions League.
