Marco Asensio is a special, special player and he provided further evidence last night against Barcelona.

The 21-year old figured 39 times for Real last season, scoring ten goals - including strikes in the UEFA Super Cup and Champions League final.

Asensio's rich vein of form carried over into the Under 21 Euros, with the Spaniard dazzling, including hitting a sublime hat-trick against Macedonia in his first outing as Spain reached the finals of the tournament.

And he's started the new campaign strongly by scoring an absolute worldie of a goal against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg last night.

On as a substitute, as he was on a number of occasions in last term's La Liga and Champions League winning campaign, the Mallorca youth product made his mark by bagging a belter past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to seal a 3-1 win for 10-man Real in the last minute.

Asensio, who has been subject to links

to Barcelona as they search for an adequate replacement for Neymar, darted down the left flank after being played through by fellow sub Lucas Vazquez and rifled in a sensational strike that cannoned in on the crossbar.

It seems like every goal Asensio scored is an absolute beauty. I'm pretty sure he's never scored a bad goal in his life.

Twitter erupted in praise for the Spaniard, as did his manager Zinedine Zidane:

Having signed Asensio for around £3.5 million in 2014, Real may well have pulled off one of the greatest bits of business in football history. It's peanuts for a player who now has a 350 million release clause and has the potential to be a Ballon d'Or winner

As supremely talented as Kylian Mbappe is, there's little need for Los Blancos to bring him in. They already have their golden boy in Asensio.
