Lionel Messi is the gift that keeps on giving on the pitch, and the Barcelona ace is doing the same off the pitch with this brilliant gesture. Messi is to cover the unpaid wages of the national teams security staff according to reports in Argentina.

The skipper was approached by the workers after they failed to receive any payments for "several months" according to SPORT.

The details were revealed on 'No Somos Nadie'; "Lionel Messi was in his room waiting for the game against Brazil in Belo Horizonte, when a knock at the door came."

The security staff proceeded to enter divulging the story; "Two or three people appeared, all from the security team who look after the Argentine team and they said "Leo, we have to talk with you. For five or six months they have not paid us. The situation is complicated, you are the captain of the team, you know us, we are asking for your help."

Which prompted the 29-year-old to phone Jorge, his father, to sort out the cash following the AFA (Argentina Football Association) failing to do so.

An amazing act even more so considering Argentina had just been humiliated by fierce-rivals Brazil. Well played, Lionel. Well played!
