Playing against either Lionel Messi or Kylian Mbappe can't be too easy so you have to feel for Lyon's Marcelo who's recently played against them both. He's lifted the lid on who was more difficult.

Lionel Messi might be the greatest player of all time. There's a chance he isn't too, he might not even be the best right now, depending on your preference, but the Barcelona forward will be considered one of the best of all time at very least, when he one day hangs up his boots.

Defending against him must be absolute and utter hell for the most part, even if he does occasionally manage to have a bad game.

Kylian Mbappe is so young it's actually impossible to know how well he'll be thought of when his career comes to an end in over a decade's time.

The PSG forward is capable of destroying any defence right now and scared the bejesus out of Manchester United's backline in a recent Champions League game.

In the same competition Messi was kept out by Lyon's defence and, speaking to Goal, the French side's defender Marcelo provided the answer to who was more difficult to mark out of the Barca and PSG forwards, saying:

"The players I've played against in recent times are at the very top level.

"Playing against Mbappe this season, he gave me a lot of work. Messi didn't play very well [on Tuesday], but Mbappe, for the speed, positioning, having direct confrontations with him, he was the most difficult.

"I think there is a great possibility that he will soon become the best in the world. There are some points that he needs to improve to be compared to Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he is evolving very fast."

Mbappe had an incredible 2018, winning Ligue 1 with PSG and the World Cup with France, scoring in the final, and 2019 looks to be continuing in the same way.

Messi is desperate to win another Champions League this season whilst it looks like he will add another La Liga title to his long list of achievements.

Defending against either men would be really difficult for anyone, not a job most would want.
