Jose Mourinho Is Just Five Games Away From An Impressive Fergie Record

Manchester United are level at the top of the table with rivals Manchester City and if he breaks the record they'll surely remain there.

Manchester United showed just how good they are yesterday by falling asleep for an hour of their game against Everton, said tongue in cheek. But Jose Mourinho won't want to rest on his laurels just yet, especially being only five games from an impressive record.

Before the season started most people reckoned the title was between the two Manchester clubs, which is also what most claimed last season before that turned to be a farcical suggestion, and the two sides have started very well.

After just five games Pep Guardiola's City and Jose Mourinho's United sit first and second in the league respectively but split literally only on alphabetical advantage. Both sides have four wins and one draw, scoring 16 and conceding two.

This weekend City had 'gone' first with their 6-0 thumping of Watford so United had to respond with a game against Everton that, despite an early 1-0 lead, they struggled during especially in the middle hour of the match.

And United's win at Old Trafford on the weekend now means they are unbeaten in all competitions in 33 games at the 'Theatre of Dreams' meaning he's very close to Sir Alex Ferguson's 'OT' record of 37 games without a loss.

Mourinho only needs to avoid defeat in his next five league games and then he'll have the record. He can get closer to it this week when the Red Devils face Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup.

After that they face Crystal Palace, Spurs, and Newcastle in the league whilst the visit of Benfica in the Champions League falls between the games against Tottenham and Newcastle.

Of course quite a lot of the results in the sequence were draws last season but the cup competitions have been Mourinho's saviour since becoming United manager, winning the EFL Cup and Europa League last season.

But after an era of losing their aura at home United fans will be happy that Old Trafford is becoming a fortress again under a manager who has lost just 10 times at home in his whole career!
