Barcelona's Post Match Poll Sums Up Marc-Andre Ter Stegen's Ridiculous Performance

Barcelona's Post Match Poll Sums Up Marc-Andre Ter Stegen's Ridiculous Performance

Barcelona may have beaten Sevilla 4-2 to go top of La Liga but without their goalkeeper being in ridiculous form they wouldn't have.

Lionel Messi's injury, that will keep him out of the Clasico, may have been the biggest news from Barcelona's win against Sevilla but it was the performance of Marc-Andre ter Stegen that best caught the eye.

It might have only been the 17th minute that saw Lionel Messi have to be replaced because of a fractured arm that will keep him out of the Clasico but that's all it took him to have a huge impact on Barcelona's game on Saturday night.

By the 12th minute Barca were 2-0 up on the then La Liga leaders thanks to a Messi assist and goal. At the final whistle it was 4-2 and the Catalan giants had gone top.

It was a win that was much needed after a poor run of form that had only been helped by Real Madrid's equally bad run. With Real's loss to Levante it was important Ernesto Valverde's side got back to winning ways ahead of next week's huge game.

Without Messi's cameo that might not have been possible but he wasn't the most important player on the pitch. It was goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen who came to Barca's rescue on a regular basis.

The club's Twitter poll for Man of the Match summed up just how good he was:

With 12 hours to go of voting Ter-Stegen is winning.

Sevilla had 19 shots during the game and the German had to be on his best form to keep some of the efforts out.

Twice he made fantastic double saves to come to his defence's rescue:

Ter Stegen's recent performances for the La Liga champions easily put him in the upper echelons of the goalkeeper's union along with David de Gea and Jan Oblak.

With Manuel Neuer's recent lack of form for both club and country, following his long injury lay-off last season, it might not be a surprise if he is soon Germany's number one.

The headlines might still have belonged to Messi but on Saturday night he wasn't their star man for one, although he did still grab a goal and assist.
