When you think of who the top assister in the top five leagues in Europe, you'd be right to thinking that it's one of the big guns in terms of profile and price tag.

However, that's not the case.

Big names with big transfer fees such as Kevin De Bruyne, Luis Suarez and Neymar are all near the top in the assist charts thanks to their contributions this season, but the man who is at the very top of the mountain cost a mere £3 million.

RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg has been in fine form this season and his 13 assists this term have helped make it a memorable first season in the Bundesliga for the club, who are currently second in the table and were leading in the German top flight before Bayern got into their groove under Carlo Ancelotti.

Forsberg, a Swedish international, signed for Leipzig in 2015 for £3 million, which has clearly been an incredible piece of business given his performances for the side.

Here are the assist charts, where Forsberg is two ahead of his nearest rival, Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson:

His latest assist was a glorious volleyed backheel flick into the danger area for Marcel Sabitzer to head home in a 3-2 win over Mainz:

The 25-year old looks likely to take his supreme talents to the Champions League next season, with Leipzig in a great position to qualify automatically for the group stages Europe's top competition.

However, a host of clubs will no doubt be keeping tabs on the playmaker following his superb form in his first season in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool were linked with the player in January and Leipzig will easily make a big profit on the man they bought for £3 million if they do decide to sell him - not that they need the cash with the money pumped in by Red Bull.

As well as setting up teammates 13 times, Forsberg has also chipped in with 8 goal.
