Giorgio Chiellini? Nope. Himself? Think again. Leonardo Bonucci has named the best defender in the world.

While discussing the worlds best defender, Bonucci has also refuted claims he's a traitor for switching allegiances from Juventus to AC Milan.

The fallen European giants have completed a major summer overhaul with the Italian defender their most shrewdest piece of business.

Bonucci arrives at the iconic San Siro from fellow Serie A rivals for €40 million. Though the 30-year-old feels unfairly labelled after pouring his blood, sweat and tears while donning the Juventus shirt.

"I'm used to being the centre of controversy and positivity, and if I'm being talked about it's because I've reached an important point as a footballer and as a man. I decided to leave Juventus because of choices the club made, it took balls to make the choice I did," Bonucci said via Football Italia.

"I was called scum, a traitor and a mercenary; three heavy adjectives for someone who always gave my all for Juve.

"I didn't leave for money, I earned almost the same last year with Juventus. With Juve we went along together until the end," he added.

But as his attention turns to the International scene, Bonucci has paid his Spanish counterpart the ultimate complement.,

Ahead of Italy's World Cup qualifier against Spain, the AC Milan skipper has named Sergio Ramos as the best in the business.

"Sergio Ramos? He's the best defender in the world. He got the award for the best defender in last season's Champions League and that proves he's the best."

Ramos help guide Real Madrid to back-to-back Champions League triumphs following their 4-1 victory against Bonucci's Juventus, last season.

He also bagged the UCL Defender of the Year with his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo winning the UCL Forward of the Year and Men's Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Italy travel to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night before hosting Israel as they bid to secure their spot at the World Cup.
