Andrew Robertson's rise to prominence has been astonishing and one tweet from the man himself in 2012 perfectly demonstrates it.

The tweet, sent from an 18-year old Robertson back in August 2012, has once again been doing the rounds after the Scotland international signed a new contract on Thursday evening.

The former Hull City full back only joined the Reds in the summer of 2017 for just £8 million, and the fee has been an absolute bargain, but he signed a new five year deal that will keep him at the club until 2024.

It reminded people of a social media posts of Robertson's from 2012, long before he ever would have imagined signing for Liverpool.

Six years ago, playing for Queen's Park in the Scottish Third Division, where the money wasn't great, he tweeted about needing to get another job because he had no money.

Robertson serves as a reminder that hard work pays off. After spending his time playing in front of 200 spectators in the lower echelons of Scottish football, he got a move to Dundee United after excelling for the Glasgow club and was later snapped up by Hull City for just short of £3 million a year later.

He spent three years at the KCOM Stadium, including two in the Premier League - and clearly caught the eye of Liverpool.

Speaking about his new deal the 24 year old said, "As soon as the club came to me, it was a no-brainer for me - I want to stay here, so as soon as they put an offer on the table it was signed as quickly as that," he told Liverpool's official website.

"It was a pretty easy contract for me and I'm sure for the club as well. We both agreed very quickly, that's why it's been done so quickly.

"Getting to know the lads and working with all the staff at Melwood has been a pleasure. The best thing about work is when you love coming in every day - and that's what I do here. I am glad I have extended my stay and hopefully we have a lot of good days ahead."
