Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Has The Worst Win % Of Any Permanent Manchester United Boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Has The Worst Win % Of Any Permanent Manchester United Boss

The Norwegian's time at Old Trafford is so up and down that he's also technically United's third best manager of all time.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as Manchester United manager can be split into two very well defined times, before he signed a permanent deal and after he signed a permanent deal, and things aren't good in the second chapter.

December seems like a hell of a long time ago, although this year is going super quick, such is the length of January, when Jose Mourinho was sacked and everyone was surprised to find Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had become Manchester United bos..

It was a free hit at Old Trafford as Solskjaer couldn't have made United's season much worse, as they were so far from the Champions League places for next season, but something had to be changed.

However the former striker's early run was so good, being unbeaten in his first 11 games in all competitions, culminating in the incredible Champions League comeback against PSG that the club decided to name him permanent manager.

Since that night in Paris though things have got progressively worse and the one point in the two final games of the season against two already relegated teams rather put the exclamation mark on how bad things are right now.

And the stats since 28th March, when he became permanent boss, show how bad it is. According to Give Me Sport, Solskjaer has the worst win percentage of any permanent United manager:

1. Sir Alex Ferguson (1986-2013) - 59.67%

2. Jose Mourinho (2016-2018) - 58.33%

3. Ernest Mangnall (1903-1912) - 54.16%

4. David Moyes (2013-2014) - 52.94%

5. Louis van Gaal (2014-2016) - 52.43%

6. Matt Busby (1970-1971) - 52.38%

7. Matt Busby (1945-1969) - 50.45%

8. Ron Atkinson (1981-1986) - 50.00%

-

19. Wilf McGuinness (1969-1970) - 36.78%

20. Herbert Bamlett (1927-1931) - 31.15%

21. Lal Hilditch (1926-1927) - 30.30%

22. Jack Robson (1914-1921) - 29.50%

23. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (2019- ) - 20.00%

However the stat doesn't actually tell the full story of Solskjaer's time at Old Trafford. Wikipedia takes their stats from when the 46 year old took over from Mourinho, following the 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

According to that list Solskjaer is actually the third most successful boss in the club's history, if taken off win percentage:

1. Sir Alex Ferguson (1986-2013) - 59.67%

2. Jose Mourinho (2016-2018) - 58.33%

3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (2018- ) - 55.17%

4. Ernest Mangnall (1903-1912) - 54.16%

5. David Moyes (2013-2014) - 52.94%

6. Louis van Gaal (2014-2016) - 52.43%

7. Sir Matt Busby (1970-1971) - 52.38%

8. Sir Matt Busby (1945-1969) - 50.45%

They say you can decide anything by stats and for that end it means that Mourinho, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal were all better managers than Sir Matt Busby...

Solskjaer is literally either the worst United manager ever or one of the best. It's probably best to give him a bit more time to actually decide.
