Fans have reacted to Sol Campbell's assessment of how Erling Haaland would have fared back when he was playing.

Haaland enjoyed an ultra-prolific campaign in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring a staggering 36 goals.

He has an impressive 52 goals in all competitions to his name as he looks to help his side win the Champions League on Saturday.

The 22-year-old has already guided the Blues to Premier League and FA Cup glory, but Arsenal legend Campbell believes the superstar forward would have had a 'tough time' back in the day.

Campbell starred for Arsenal as he won two Premier League titles, including the 'Invincibles' season.

And he reckons Haaland wouldn't have had it all his way if he played in the same era as him.

"If Haaland was playing my time, there's a lot more big guys around," said the Premier League-winning centre-back.

Campbell's take on how Haaland would have had coped during his days in England's top flight got fans online talking.

One Twitter user wrote: "Very true. The calibre of defenders back then is nothing compared to now especially in Europe as well as CDMs."

A second tweeted: "The league was better in those days."

A third added: "Tbf defenders used to just take players out. Haaland v Psycho would be a good thing to see. Des Walker had lots of pace."

A fourth argued: "Bigger maybe, but less athletic and quick. Haaland would have had Campbell on toast."

A fifth referenced Didier Drogba, tweeting: "If Drogba used to ragdoll people, imagine Haaland."

Another commented: "Sol 'I'm trying to stay relevant' Campbell would be bodied by Haaland the man’s a machine."

During Campbell's era, the Premier League boasted big-name defenders like Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and John Terry, to name but a few.

How would have Haaland done against the likes of Ferdinand, Vidic and Terry? Let us know.
