Most people talking to a room full of people in Glasgow might have avoided the topic of football. But Conor McGregor opened up his Q&A in Scotland by paying tribute to Celtic on Friday night.

The Irish fighter wass in SEC Armadillo in the Scottish city to speak in front of thousands of diehard fans. It was his first press engagement since losing to Floyd Mayweather in their Las Vegas fight last month, but is also interesting considering it was his first event in Glasgow too.

Last weekend was the first Old Firm derby of the season and considering how tense the rivalry is between the two clubs in the city you'd have thought that most people wouldn't necessarily approach the subject.

However McGregor's Irish roots would likely make him a Hoops favourite and he also praised Celtic on social media months ago after the Green Brigade used one of his quotes as part a fan display before their game against Astana in the Champions League.

Last night he took to the stage in Glasgow and instantly got any fans of Brendan Rodgers' side on board with his opening comments.

That is sure to go down with Celtic supporters.

Celtic have been dominating the SPFL since Rangers were relegated because of financial issues and even with the Gers now moving back into the top tier that domination has continued.

The win but Rodgers' side eight points above their fierce rivals before the blue side won on Friday night.

McGregor was making his first appearance since losing to Floyd Mayweather in his only professional boxing match to date, in which Mayweather beat him in the 10th round.

Speaking about a possible rematch McGregor reckoned he would win next time saying, ""What's sickening me is that the little motherf**ker is retired now. I know if I went another go with him, under boxing rules, I'd get that win. I know that. I know by the feeling of him in the first fight."
