Michael Carrick Discusses His And Pep Guardiola's Post Match Conversation

Lots of respect between these two.

There's clearly a lot of respect between Michael Carrick and Pep Guardiola and the two men on opposite sides of Manchester's footballing world had words after last night's match with the Manchester United midfielder revealing what was said.

For much of the Manchester derby it looked like it was all going to be very cordial between the players and even the managers. Then Marouane Fellaini seemed to single handedly ruin everything.

I often find myself wondering what exactly the players and managers hope to achieve by speaking to the fourth official. Image: PA Images

The Belgian's 'headbutt' sent Sergio Aguero to the floor in as dramatic a style as The Rock on the receiving end of a Stone Cold Stunner, sure there was contact and Fellaini deserved his red but the Argentine could go one on one with the Great One as far as selling is concerned.

United's midfield of Fellaini, Carrick and underrated shithouse Ander Herrera were solid for most of last night's game keeping the City attack at bay, although not creating too much going forward.

In the build up to the match Carrick was in the headlines after Guardiola called him "one of the best holding midfielders he's ever seen" and the two men were seen walking off the pitch together. After the match the player revealed the respect him and the opposition manager hold for each other:

Carrick has long been talked about as one of the most underrated players in the English game, so much so that a weird paradox has occurred where he may now be one of the most overrated players in the English game.

The former Spurs player probably didn't get enough recognition from the national team during his career but on the few occasions he did play for England he didn't perform as well as he would have wanted.

Carrick's contract at Old Trafford runs out at the end of the season and it's not known if he'll get a new deal yet but he is getting a testimonial in the summer.

Just how good has Michael Carrick been for United?
